If home is build with clay the basement floor may get slightly up and slightly down according to content of water in the ground. In this case you should use L shaped steel framing clips acted to the first floor- floor joists and to the walls. These chips will allow the walls of basement to move up and down and give support to remain wall vertical. If basement walls had many obstructions such as pipes, duct work then you need to stick build walls around these obstructions.
