Molds evolve themselves in the presence of food, dampness and humidity. There is nothing as worse as to discover that you have a household mold problem. These organisms can spring up anywhere and hence it is important for you to recognize and acknowledge this problem before it takes a worse shape and use all the preventive measures to make sure that this problem doesn’t occur in future.
Here are some ways in which you can get rid of molds:
- Molds grow in typical places like ceilings, wallpaper and painted areas and carpets. Keep a track of such places and clean them often. Make sure that the windows are kept open and check for water leaks inside the kitchen sink, bath tub and other places. Repair them as quickly as possible.
- Clean all the hard surfaces regularly with bleach which will not only kill the molds but will also have a neutralizing effect on all the allergy-inducing spores. Use bleach on walls, cabinet, bath tub, sink, refrigerator and washing machine etc.
- To prevent the collection of moisture inside your bathroom and kitchen, install exhaust fans (moisture is one the main reasons for the appearance of molds).
- It is very obvious to use humidifiers during the winter season but always turn them off if you get to see condensation on the windows and other surfaces. The humidity level should be maintained somewhere between 30%-50% so as to prevent the occurrence of molds.
- It would be surprising to know that something as ordinary as vinegar can be used to get rid of molds. Spraying a bottle of vinegar on the effected areas like tiles, shower cubicles and seals.
- You can also use a rag with rubber glove to get rid of the spores. This is a cheap and quick way to get rid of fungus from the appliances.
- One of the most common places that get afflicted with molds is the floor carpet. You can either replace it with wooden flooring or use baking powder, whichever suites you.
- Lastly it is advisable to consult a professional if this problem aggravates very quickly and all the methods of prevention have failed.
Well all the above methods would definitely help you to get rid of common household molds and make your home a cleaner, better and safer place to live in.
