It is important to have lawns outside our homes because they help to bring us close to nature and give our homes an appealing, refreshing and natural look. Hence it is our responsibility to take care of these small pieces of nature which go a long way to soothe our jangled nerves. Besides giving our home a nice look, lawns have also become a major player in the eco-system thereby signifying that it becomes our responsibility to preserve them for a better environment.

Here are some ways or tips which can help to make your lawn better for you as well as the environment:

  1. Grass cycling is one way in which your lawn can have a great look. The grass not only smells good when you mow it but also feels good to walk across. It also serves to reduce 33% in the amount of supplement fertilizer needed. Moreover, mowed grass looks sparkling in the morning with fresh dew shining in between the grass blades.
  2. It has been found that cutting the grass higher or loosening the stranglehold on it, will give your garden a better look. Moreover closely-cropped grasses require loads effort to be managed efficiently. The extra green on top provides more nutrients to the grass thereby helping the roots to grow deep (it gives the grass better access to water). The larger blades give an overall green look to the grass and protect it from the light of the sun.
  3. Most of the turf-glasses grow good in soil which is slightly acidic to neutral. The weeds on the other hand prefer acidic or alkaline soils, so getting the right pH balance can give favorable conditions for your grass to grow and weeds to slower down. Now if you have natural acidic soil, then you can sweeten with lime or wood ash. But make sure that that you determine the correct pH of your soil by using the soil-test kit before taking any decisions.
  4. Experts have suggested that aerating your grass (every couple of years) helps water, nutrients and air to go deep down into the roots of grasses and it also helps to get rid of thatches.
  5. It has been found out that most lawns need about an inch of water per week. So it is important to water the grass in the right time and way. It has been advised to water your grass or plants in the morning, watering in the evening makes your garden more prone to diseases.

A good lawn requires a little patience, a little care and should be groomed occasionally. Just follow the tricks mentioned above and you could find that your garden gets transformed beyond imagination.
